"The struggle for social justice and human dignity in America has been erroneously identified as 'the Black problem.' Many Americans view this crisis in simple terms of black and white. And since the value of the soul as well as the flesh is at stake, it is inevitable that religion be injected into the debate. Many people bitterly denounce Christianity and the Bible because, in their view, those who practice religious piety are among the leading exponents of hate, bigotry and prejudice. They feel that these 'Bible-toting Saints' perpetuate the most segregated hour of the week-eleven o'clock Sunday morning. Today's young blacks, having learned more history than their forebears, are quick to resent acts of so called Christianity and the use of those random Biblical verses that are so blatantly detrimental to the dignity of the black man in America."

Skinner Leadership Institue is excited to offer this classic teaching by Tom Skinner as a clear and precise message to today's generation looking for social justice and change. It speaks to the growing voices who seek justice but it is grounded in the fundamental understanding that there can be no justice without love. www.SkinnerLeadership.org

How Black Is The Gospel A Decisive And Truthful Message For Today Revolution edition by Tom Skinner Politics Social Sciences eBooks

A good book on the CURRENT black condition. A poor book on reconciling the gospel to that condition. Skinner is quite schizophrenic in his back and forth between the world and the kingdom of God. He seems unable to understand that the kingdom of which he is a part is not of this world. One cannot hoist the King and His edicts on the flesh. Jesus was (and is) for those who have ears and eyes to hear and see; not for public consumption ("and few will find it?") Towards the end of the book, Skinner seems to understand this; however, he should have reflected this understanding throughout his earlier discourse on how Jesus' radicalism can aid the average black man in America. Physically--very little. Spiritually-- eternally.

How Black Is The Gospel A Decisive And Truthful Message For Today Revolution edition by Tom Skinner Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews

One of the most inspirational books I've ever read. Written 40 years ago, but relevant in today's time. Prophetic and powerful.
Tom Skinner is the first minister who I have read that was able to put the Gospel in a context that specifically relates to black people. Folks come from different walks of life. The black expereince here in America has had a monumental impact on how black people view and see the church. Tom has a way of cutting through all of the garbage and gets to the heart of the matter and why Jesus Christ is relevant to all people and black people in particular.
This book gives good historical facts that you would not learn is schools.
The Gospel is as black as it White. It transforms the souls of all men, compelling them to love regardless of appearance or circumstance. This is Skinner's message.
This book was very well written. He presents how being Black and Christian isn't an oxymoron. Some of the same issues that we're going on during his time are being played out today
I have highlighted a dozen or so pages of this book. It's stirring and convicting in its analysis of the problems of the Church today. What's worse, many of the issues called out are no less prevalent today than they were when the book was first written.
One of the most profound reads I've read on the Gospel. This read gave me hope for the future of the church and its leader. It is only through Jesus saturating our hearts that we can build one another up. We've made progress but there is still a dark demonic force that does not want to see Revelation 79 in our churches today. Thank you Tom Skimmer for pouring your life out so people can pick up and continue the work you've established!
